Bilawal House: the wall

THE residents of Block 2, Clifton, Karachi, welcome Asif Zardari’s decision to voluntarily remove roadblocks from the main road running along the ‘Bilawal House’.

These road barriers were a great irritant for the residents, especially those living just opposite Bilawal House along the main road. The service road was too inadequate to cater for the traffic, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.

I believe that Bilawal House is still well-protected and its security will not be adversely affected by the removal of the barriers.

The high walls along the main road are still there which are an eyesore and give an ugly look not only to the locality but to the Bilawal House itself.

We hope they will also be removed in due course, thereby enhancing the aesthetic beauty of the area around the Bilawal House.

There is one more point to which I would like to draw the attention of Asif Ali Zardari. Since around 1995, the entire area (Block 2 Clifton) gives the look of a large ‘garbage dump’. Some 100 truckloads of garbage must be lying littered in open spaces.

When Bilawal House was coming up, people hoped that Benazir Bhutto and Asif Zardari would ensure that the area would be clear of garbage.

However, nothing happened in this regard. Then, much latter, when Asif Zardari became the president of the country, the people again hoped that something would be done. Unfortunately, the residents of Block 2 were again disappointed.

We wonder whether Asif Ali Zardari will look into this aspect now and use his influence with the relevant quarters to improve sanitary conditions in the area.
