Two suspected militants held in Kohat

KOHAT: The police on Saturday arrested two suspected militants involved in firing on police and security forces.

A suspected militant identified as Afsar Khan was arrested during a raid in Ghurzandi area of Lachi, a police official said, adding that the suspect carried a head money of Rs300,000 announced by the provincial government as he was also wanted by police of other districts in similar cases. He allegedly worked for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Another alleged terrorist, Yasir Khan, was nabbed in a raid on a guesthouse in Jungle Khel area, said the police official, adding that the police acted on a tip-off. He maintained that the accused had attacked a police van and injured two officials, last week, near Katta Kanri area of the Kohat city.

The police also recovered arms and ammunition, including three small machine guns, seven shotguns, eight rifles, six pistols and thousands of cartridges, from the hideouts of the outlaws.

The Ghurzandi area of Kohat district was, until recently, considered to be a no go area because militants established their hideouts in the area to easily escape to Orakzai and Kurram Agencies to launch terrorist attacks there.
