Armour III takes 1-shot lead

SAN ANTONIO (Texas), Sept 27: Tommy Armour III shot his lowest score of the season, an eight-under-par 62, to grab a one-shot lead after the second round of the $3.5 million Texas Open on Friday.

Armour finished with a 14-under total of 126, one ahead of Dan Forsman (63), who bogeyed his final hole, the ninth, at LaCantera Golf Club’s Resort course.

South Africa’s Tim Clark (63) was in third place on 128, 12 under. South Korea’s KJ Choi, Tom Lehman, Charles Howell III, Paul Goydos and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Hal Sutton were tied for fourth on 129.

Six of the 11 leading players are 40-plus. That includes the 43-year-old Armour, grandson of the former Scottish golfer Tommy Armour, and 45-year-old Forsman.

The other over-40s are Lehman, 43, Sutton, 45, and defending champion Loren Roberts, 48, and Bob Tway, 44, who are both on 130 alongside Cameron Beckman.

The last three tournament winners on the PGA Tour have been 40-plus.
