FIR ordered against ex-CIA station chief

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday directed the IGP Islamabad to submit a compliance report after registering an FIR against former CIA station chief Jonathan Banks and legal adviser John A. Rizzo.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui issued the direction while disposing of a contempt petition filed by Abdul Karim Khan, whose brother and son were killed in a US drone strike in North Waziristan in 2009.

Justice Siddiqui heard the proceedings in his chamber on the request of IGP Tahir Alam Khan.

Advocate Mirza Shehzad Akbar, the counsel for Abdul Karim, earlier contended before the court that contempt proceedings can be initiated against the respondent police officials for defying the court orders.

Following the in-chamber hearing, the court ordered the police chief to submit a compliance report after registering the case at the Secretariat police station within two days.

Karim Khan in the application said the drone attacks were carried out on the directions of the former CIA station chief.
