PESHAWAR, Sept 27: The mystery of a recent murder of a girl remains unsolved as the police raids to arrest the suspected killer have produced no results.

Last year, Riasat was released by a court after her family gave an undertaking that she would not be harmed. However, she died at her home in Bhadabher locality under mysterious circumstances on Sept 14. Her father Abdur Raheem charged her former fiance, Zar Wali, with her murder.

People of the locality said she was feeling threatened from her brothers and had conveyed her fears to a human rights activist.

The police claimed that they had raided the residence of Zar Wali several times, but he could not be found there.

Riasat had left her parents home in October last year, a day before her marriage. She had claimed that her parents had engaged her with Zar Wali against her will and that she wanted to marry another boy of the area, Roohullah.

While on their way late in night, Riasat and Roohullah took a police vehicle for a passenger vehicle and waved it to stop. The police took them into custody under Section 294 of the Pakistan Penal Code, a section dealing with obscene acts in public.

A judicial magistrate issued their release order on the condition that her parents should give an undertaking for her safety. The undertaking was furnished by some notables of the area.

Realizing the sensitivity of the situation, the jail authorities sent Riasat to a Darul Aman run by the All Pakistan Women Association.

Few months back, she was handed over to her uncle, Deedar Gul, after he assured the Darul Aman administration that Riasat would live with his family.

One week before her death, Riasat went along her parents after her mother and other members of the family held various meetings with her and assured her that they had forgiven her.

Some people informed the in charge of the Darul Aman, Musarrat Hilali, that Riasat had been shifted to her parents home. Ms Hilali informed the police of the development.

The police claimed that they had warned Riasat’s family not to harm her. Yet, her father informed the police on the night of Sept 14 that Zar Wali had entered their residence and killed her.
