No link of defamation suit against Imran with JC: Iftikhar

MULTAN: Former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry has said the defamation suit filed against PTI chief Imran Khan has nothing to do with the judicial commission being constituted to probe rigging in the 2013 general elections.

He stated this while talking to the media people after offering condolence on the death of Mutahidda Shehri Mahaz Chairman Tariq Naeemullah to his family members here on Friday.

He said the judicial commission could be an effective forum provided it worked properly.

The former CJP said he had filed the defamation suit of Rs20 billion against Imran Khan for leveling baseless allegations against him.

He said that as a chief justice he had given a ruling in which he had directed to take action against the political parties having their own militant wings.

Mr Chaudhry said that militant wings of political parties also established no-go areas in Karachi and were involved in targeted killings.

He said he had also taken action in cases of missing persons.
