7 killed as wagon hits tree

GUJRAT, Sept 25: Seven passengers of a wagon died and eight others were injured in an accident on Mandi-Gujrat Road near Miana Gondal (Mandi Bahauddin district), some 100km from here, on Thursday afternoon.

The wagon (SGJ-607) was reportedly on its way to Gujrat from Bhalwal. In a bid to save a motorcyclist near Miana Gondal, the driver lost control over the steering and the wagon rammed into a roadside tree.

As a result, seven passengers, including driver Mohammad Boota, died instantaneously and eight passengers received injuries. The identity of other dead persons could not immediately be ascertained.

The injured were shifted to the DHQ Hospital where two of them were said to be in a critical condition.

The injured were identified as Aysha, Farida Bibi, Nasreen Bibi, Riaz Bibi, Abdul Ghani, Manzar Abbas, Mukhtiar Ahmad and Farooq.
