BADIN, Sept 25: The general secretary of Sindh Abadgar Board, district Badin, Haji Muhammad Nawaz Memon has warned the irrigation authorities not to play with the lives of abadgars by closing the non-perennial canals.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday he said that after devastating rains in the Badin district major part of the land was inundated with water and the crops were completely destroyed.

He said the closure of canals would bring a “death warrant” to farmers.

Mr Memon said farmers brought under cultivation some of the land situated in upper areas when standing water receded in the month of August.

He said farmers brought paddy seedlings from other areas and sowed them by August 31 for the second time to earn their livelihood.

He added the irrigation authorities were planning closure of non-perennial canals by September 30, which would destroy recently planted crops.

He said the Sindh Abadgar Board had sent telegrams to the higher authorities to look into the matter.

Walk organized

BADIN, Sept 25: A walk to stress the fact that children between five and six years of age should be admitted to schools so that the literacy race in the country could be improved was organized here on Thursday.

The District Education Department was the main organizer of the event.

Hundreds of school students, EDO Education Nazimuddin Taghar, District Officer Literacy Syed Qamar Zaman Shah, DPO Javed Akhtar Odho, Fozia Abbasi and some others took part in the event.
