HAFIZABAD, Sept 24: In support of the resignation of five members of Pakistan Muslim League-Quad-i-Azam, 52 members of district, union and tehsil councils have handed over their resignations to MNA Chaudhry Mahdi Hasan Bhatti, Tehsil Nazim Rai Jahangir Ali Kharal announced at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Prominent among them were District Naib Nazim Rana Akbar Ali, the tehsil Naib Nazim, the District Public Safety Commission chairman and the Market Committee chairman.

In a telephonic message, Mr Bhatti said his allies in the parliament were also ready to join hands with him in support of the resignations.

Answering a question, tehsil Nazim Rai Kharal said that Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had rejected their repeated invitations for a visit to the district where the government machinery had failed to maintain law and order.

The district had become a police state. Unable to control thefts and dacoities, the police were terrorizing people and had set up special points (Ada) in police stations for minting money, he alleged.
