LAHORE, Sept 24: Widespread rain, which was heavy at some places, was reported in many parts of the NWFP, northern areas and Islamabad on Wednesday.
Lahore, which remained covered under clouds throughout the day, received passing showers after sunset that provided a temporary relief to the people braving sultry conditions for the past one week or so.
The rain continued for around 20 minutes. Power breakdown in many localities deprived people of excitement of pleasant weather.
The maximum temperature was 33.1 degrees C and the minimum 25.5 degrees C with 76 per cent humidity in the morning and 64 per cent in the evening.
According to the meteorological office, the rain was caused by a westerly wave over Kashmir. It started after 2am and continued till morning. Some cities received rain also during the day.
Chief Meteorologist Shaukat Ali Awan said the westerly system affected the Punjab only up to Jhelum. The rest of the province was still receiving moisture form the Arabian Sea, which was keeping weather warm and humid, he added.
The Flood Forecasting Division reported that from 1am to 8am, Daggar received 132mm rain, Kallar 107mm, Islamabad (Saidpur 100mm, airport 65mm, Zero Point 50mm, Shamshabad 46mm and Dhamial 32mm), Balakot and Kund 79mm each, Kamra 70mm, Marala 46mm, Mangla 39mm, Tarbela 35mm, Jhelum 34mm, Muzaffarabad 33mm, Garhidupatta 26mm, Kotli and Khairabad 24mm each, Kakul 21mm, Saidu Sharif 19mm, Malamjabba 18mm, Sialkot 17mm, Risalpur 16mm, Murree 15mm, Sohawa 14mm and Dir received 11mm rain.
Between 8am and 5pm, Peshawar received 55mm rain, Balakot 38mm, Muzaffarabad 30mm, Kakul 24mm, Jhelum 17mm, Kotli 6mm, Astore 5mm and Dir 1mm rain.
The Met office forecast more rain in Lahore and several other cities in the Punjab, the NWFP and the northern areas during the next 24 hours.
