KHAIRPUR, Sept 23: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and Korai tribesmen observed a token hunger strike here on Tuesday to demand early arrest of the police officials involved in the murder of Rashid Hussain Korai.

Speaking on the occasion, JSQM chairman Basheer Khan Qureshi said the police had arrested a number of suspects but the police officials named in the FIR had not been arrested.

He maintained that there were separate laws for the poor people and the police officials which spoke of double standards.

DPO Fateh Sheer Joyo said the police were not involved in the murder of Rashid Hussain and an enquiry in this regard was under way, therefore, the hunger strike was uncalled for.

LINES CUT: About 300 telephone lines were disconnected from the PTCL main exchange, Khairpur, on Tuesday. The action was taken following instructions from high officials of the PTCL.

DET (PTCL) Nusrat Shaikh and SDO (telephones) Zulfiqar Ali Suhag with other PTCL staff paid surprise visits to Sobhodero, Priyaloi, Setharja, Ahmedpur, Pir Jo Goth and other towns.

Finding antennas of cordless telephone sets over various houses, they noted the names, numbers and addresses of such subscribers and later disconnected their lines.

HESCO-CAC MEETING: Hesco officials, Gambat, held a meeting with leaders of the Citizens Action Committee on Tuesday.

Dr Rahim Bux Memon, Aziz Jafri and others from the committee whereas SDO Asadullah Shaikh from the Hesco attended the meeting.

It was decided that the Citizens Action Committee would submit a list of detection bills to Hesco officials for correction.

The Hesco officials said there was no unscheduled loadshedding as citizens were always informed of loadshedding in case of any fault or repair work.
