KARACHI, Sept 22: Wild-card entry Shah Khan blanked defending champion Naveen Perwani to maintain upset tempo in 17th Red and White Latif Masters snooker championship at Karachi Club Billiards Hall on Monday.
However later in the final session, Naveen restored some of his dented pride with a clearance break of 128 in his 4-1 triumph against Muhammad Faiq Malik of Punjab.
Senior international Naveen recovered after losing the opening frame to smash dazzling break of 128 in the fifth frame.
Shah from Peshawar, who was given special entry into the championship after the pull out of his province-mate Arifullah from the event, caused the major upset on the second day.
Abu Saim, who emerged as star on day one when he toppled fancied Muhammad Yousuf and Saleh Muhammad, went down 4-3 against Imran Shahzad in a thriller in his third match.
Shah, a semifinalist of Style national ranking championship few months back, looked in good nick as he outplayed Naveen.
Amit Parwani caused the other upset in the morning session when he inflicted a 4-1 defeat on former national championship Farhan Mirza. Amit started with a fine break of 89. Farhan took the penultimate frames. But Amit sealed victory by grabbing the fifth frame.
Third seed and former world amateur champion Yousuf erased the sore memory of defeat against Saim the previous day, by outclassing left handed Vishan Gir and Minhas Malik in straight frames.
Veteran Yousuf made the break of 88 against Vishan and added breaks of 68 and 52 against Minhas to show his class.
Second seed Saleh after Sunday’s humilation, returned to top form when first he handed out 4-1 defeat to Minhas and later accounted for young Vishan.
Top seed Khurram Agha of KPT chalked out the breaks of 42, 60 and 40 with an impressive 4-1 win against Faiq.
In his fourth match, Khurram beat Shah in straight frame to maintain his his winning run.
