KOHAT, Sept 22: Customs staff on Sunday seized 15,700 metres of foreign cloth which was being smuggled to Punjab from the tribal areas and arrested two persons.

Acting on a tip off, a customs party along with the Saddar police asked a truck (Peshawar-E9788) piloted by a car (LXO-5494) near Jarma on Bannu Road to stop. However, the vehicles sped away.

After a chase, the police-customs party fired at the speeding vehicles and forced them to stop near Muslimabad. A thorough search of the vehicles yielded 13,800 meters of foreign cloth hidden in empty cement bags.

The police also booked two people — Raheem Khan and Noor Mohammad from the spot.

In another case, the Kohat traffic police recovered 1,900 metres of smuggled cloth from a car during routine checking of vehicles.
