SIALKOT, Sept 22: A woman was axed to death by her brother on Monday for pressuring him to give her dowry on the insistence of her in-laws at Laliyan village, Head Marala.
Reports said Suraya, who married an year ago, often asked her brother to give her dowry, which she could take home to satisfy her in-laws. She also complained that she was being mentally tortured by her in-laws.
On Monday, Suraya went to her brother Riaz’s place with the same demand, but the latter lost his temper and axed and killed her. He left the house.
ROBBERIES: Robbers on Monday plundered cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth millions of rupees, besides driving away with motorcycles in eight strikes in the district.
A gang, including woman, took away the motorcycles of Irfan Ahmad and Khalid on Nawan Pind Road, Muradpur.
Robbers looted cash, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs100,000 from Muhammad Riaz’s house at Ratta Jathol village, in Pasrur.
At Kutcha Shahabpura (a locality in the Sialkot tehsil), six armed men stormed into a widow’s house from where they took away gold and cash worth Rs100,000. The robbers reportedly beat the widow and her daughter before fleeing.
Robbers bagged cash and kind from two other houses in different parts of the district. Three armed men took away cash and valuables worth around Rs150,000 from Amjad Ali’s house.
While two armed motorcyclists snatched cash and gold ornaments worth Rs150,000 from Gojra’s Mohsin Bilal.
