Girls’ school damaged in Karachi bomb blast

KARACHI: The wall of a government-run girls’ school and two vehicles were damaged in a bomb blast here on Sunday, police said.

They said an explosive device weighing about half a kg was placed near the boundary wall of Government Primary School for Girls at Gul Mohammad Kalmati Goth near Murtaza Chowrangi.

Two cars parked near the school-building were also damaged when the device containing ball bearings exploded, SP Akhtar Farooq said.

The SP quoting the bomb disposal squad said it was not a time device or a remote-controlled bomb. Instead, it carried safety fuse which went off in 40-45 seconds after the bomb had been placed.

The school was closed for the weekly holiday. No one was injured.

The SP said it seemed the attackers wanted to create panic.
