NAWABSHAH, Sept 20: The Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Zain Shah group) activists observed a token hunger strike here on Saturday in protest against the Kalabagh dam and Thal canal projects.
Speaking on the occasion, party chief Syed Zain Shah said that the people of Sindh should protest before the ministers, advisers, MNAs and MPAs who were supporting the disputed water projects.
He said that Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali was betraying the people of Balochistan who stood by Sindh in opposing the dam project.
He further said that the Sindhis, Baloch and Pakhtoons had rejected the projects but the rulers were not ready to listen to their voice.
In the circumstances, Mr Shah said, the people had no other option but to block roads and protest before the powers that be.
He urged the people of Sindh to get united for achieving the rights of the province including its water share.
JSM-Z general secretary Rasool Bux Thebo and others also spoke on the occasion.
Adds our Hyderabad bureau: A meeting of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party here on Thursday discussed the formation of a united front against the construction of Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal.
On the occasion, party leader Dr Qadir Magsi briefed the participants about his talks with Awami National Party leaders in Peshawar regarding such a front.
The meeting stressed the need to forge a united front comprising Sindhi, Pukhtoon, Baloch and Seraiki nationalist parties to launch a joint struggle against the controversial water projects.
The participants criticised the Mutahidda Qaumi Movement’s silence in the national and Sindh assemblies on the issue of the water projects.
The meeting demanded that the compulsory subject of Sindhi language should be taught in private schools of the province and the closed Sindhi medium schools reopened.
The meeting supported the struggle of Comrade Mandhal Shar against the management of the Mari gas field.
