ABBOTTABAD, Sept 19: The NWFP Inspector General of Police Riffat Pasha said that committees would soon be constituted to fill 1,000 vacant posts in police department.

Speaking at a Hazara police darbar here on Friday, the IGP said that the committees would be formed at the district level to induct recruits in the department purely on merit basis, adding that  certain  seats would be allocated for  the  dependents of serving policemen.

Mr Pasha said the department faced financial constraints as the government had allocated Rs30 million less than it had received in the previous year.

The IGP said whenever they approached to the government for funds, the finance department adopted delaying tactics.

However,  he  assured the police  department  that  the infrastructure would be improved to fully implement the new police order.

The IGP ruled out any sort of operation going on against Al Qaeda or Taliban in NWFP, saying that it was a media campaign to defame the province.
