Peace and development unit launched

ISLAMABAD: The Planning Commission in the light of the current security situation in the country has created a ‘Peace and Development Unit’ to conduct research and assessment studies on peace and conflict.

Launched as part of ‘Vision 2025’, the unit will work under Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and aim to maximise the peace dividend out of development projects and undertake peace assessment of uplift schemes, said a press release on Wednesday.

The unit aims to integrate peace and stability as one of the key performance indicators of development projects approved by the Planning Commission.

According to Mr Iqbal, clusters of conflicts exist in Pakistan which have the potential to destabilise political, social and economic environment of the country.
