Suspended training sessions at UBL Complex irks hockey players

KARACHI: More than thirty up and coming hockey players of the city who remained part of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) academy are facing lot of agony following the suspension of their regular practice sessions at the UBL Sports Complex on the instructions of its management due to proposed renovation, former international Jan Mohammad claimed on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Jan who along with other coaches trained the players of the academy, said that the academy has yielded fruitful results during the last six to seven years and some of its players of the previous batches had earned a place in the PHF academy and Pakistan junior team.

He lamented that despite closure of the academy since the last one year by the PHF, the current batch of players were training regularly at the UBL Sports Complex until they were asked to stop and leave the premises.

According to Jan Mohammad, the PHF secretary Rana Mujahid’s request to allow the players to continue their training went in vain. Former Olympian Saleem Sherwani and former internationals Mohammad Ali and Mubashir Mukhtar were other members of the panel of coaches.
