PESHAWAR, Sept 15: A 13-day-long refresher course for lady health visitors (LHVs) from the NWFP and the Azad Jammu and Kashmir started here on Monday.

The course has been organized by the Trust for Voluntary Organisations (TVO) for the LHVs in the European Union-funded projects, in collaboration with the Regional Training Institute.

A press release stated that the course was inaugurated by chairman of the Board of Directors of TVO Azam Khan. The inaugural session was also addressed by RTI’s principal Dr Tufail and TVO’s regional officer Amjidzeb Khan.

Azam Khan said that since 1998, the TVO has trained about 1,500 workers of various NGOs, adding that the courses were aimed at training LHVs in reproductive health, population planning, safe motherhood as well as infant and female mortality.

He urged upon the participants to play an active role in improving the situation in under-developed areas.

Mr Khan urged participants to create awareness among different segments of the society besides training other people in those areas.
