LAHORE, Dec 21: All provincial departments have been told by Governor Khalid Maqbool to put in place an internal monitoring mechanism to review their functioning.
He gave the direction at a meeting on Friday of the Governor’s Inspection Team. The heads of the provincial departments would be personally responsible for the poor performance, corruption, and any other irregularity in their respective departments.
The meeting was attended by the provincial chief secretary and other senior officials.
The governor stressed the need for making the GIT more vibrant for timely detection of irregularities and suggest remedial steps for them. The GIT was also entrusted to carry out inspections of mega projects, including all the foreign-funded schemes, at their execution stage to ensure efficiency and expeditious completion.
In addition to it, the GIT would also critically evaluate the existing government systems and procedures which impact the life of the people and also improve them to provide much-needed relief to the common man. The team would also monitor and evaluate the functioning of major departments and provincial-level autonomous institutions which affect the day-to-day life of citizens through the process of inspection and inquiries. It would also monitor the execution of development schemes by the districts to ensure transparency besides carrying out special assignments given to it by the governor.
