LAHORE, Sept 11: Ten students sustained injuries in a clash with wagon drivers and conductors at a college on Raiwind Road in Chuhng on Thursday.
The police said over a dozen students of the college hired a wagon to visit the city and on return refused to pay the amount they had agreed. After an exchange of harsh words, they reportedly thrashed the wagon driver and the conductor.
The two victims left the place and returned after about half an hour with more than 25 men. They entered the college and asked for the production of the students who had beaten up the two. They also demanded for the outstanding fare.
On seeing the armed men, the police said, the students got infuriated and attacked them. A scuffle ensued and the armed men had to open fire when they found themselves among hundreds of students.
Ten students sustained bullet injuries and the alleged attackers escaped before the police reached the scene. The injured students were taken to a nearby hospital.
Four of the injured students were admitted to hospital in critical condition while the others were discharged.
A case has been registered with no arrest.
Two arrested: The National Highways and Motorway Police on Thursday claimed they had arrested two men and recovered 700 bottles of liquor from their possession.
According to a press release, a car (PK-5310) was stopped by the motorway police for breaking the speed barrier near Manga Mandi. During the search of the car, the police seized liquor and arrested driver Qamar Shahzad and his accomplice Muhammad Farooq.
The accused were later handed over to the Manga Mandi police for further investigation.
