SYDNEY, Sept 10: Ricky Ponting on Wednesday said he was determined to erase some sour memories on Australia’s upcoming triangular one-day cricket tour to India.

Australia’s last visit to India in 2001 was a nightmare for Ponting, who returned home with his confidence battered after scoring just 17 runs in five Test innings.

“I did not get too many with the bat then and I am keen to improve on that,” said Aussie one-day captain.

The limited-overs series featuring World Cup-winners Australia, New Zealand and India will be played between Oct 23 and Nov 18.

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh troubled Ponting the most on slow turning pitches in 2001, dismissing him in all five Test innings.

Ponting said he had not changed his technique against spin, but was hopeful of doing well because he had developed a lot since that tour.

“The technique is more or less the same and in this game, you learn as you go along. I’d certainly not be thinking about those low scores in India, but it was a fantastic series overall. People back home still talk about it. The cricket was tough as it should be.”—PPI
