SRINAGAR, Sept 9: Kashmir’s dominant rebel group Hizbul Mujahideen apologised on Tuesday to the people of the region for a weekend explosion that killed seven and injured 36 others.

The car-bomb at the Srinagar’s busy fruit market killed seven civilians and injured another 31.

It also injured five Indian soldiers, including a brigadier who heads one of the army’s high-altitude warfare schools in the restive region.

“Hizbul expresses its deep sympathies and apologies to the relatives of the dead and injured civilians, and urges them to forgive the group,” its spokesman Junaid-ul-Islam told local news agency Current News Service.

He said the prime target of the group had been the army brigadier.—AFP
