LARKANA, Sept 9: The district council in its Tuesday’s session called on the Sindh government to stop releasing funds for school management committees till a new strategy was evolved for funds disbursement.

Tabling the resolution to this effect, Aijaz Leghari pointed out the need for monitoring the spending by the committees.

He said that last fiscal year, Rs70 million were allocated to the school committees of the district but the amount was spent without any check and balance.

Education sub-committee chief Amir Bakhsh Gaad supported the proposal and accused the committee representatives of misuse of funds.

He said that area Nazims should be included in the committees to monitor their spending.

Mohammed Hayat Shaikh, Muhib Pirzado, Abdul Qadir Sangi, Khair Mohammed Shaikh and Badar Abbasi also supported the resolution.

They said that lately the district government had released around Rs50 million to the committees and if a timely check was not put on their spending, there was a likelihood of misuse of the funds.

The district council also unanimously adopted another resolution tabled by Mr Gaad, suggesting that primary schools falling in the jurisdiction of a union council should be brought under the supervision of a senior head master.

It is imperative, he said, to have a check on false statements submitted by the assistant district officers (education) regarding operational and non-operational schools.

For the counter-check, Nazim or Naib Nazim of the union council should visit the area and tell head master about the situation prior to signing the salary bills.

Khursheed Talat Khatyan, Ayoub Ansari, Mohammed Amin Mengal and others endorsed the proposal.

The members of district council also took exception of the absence of officers from the session despite instructions from the Sindh chief secretary.

Convener Nazeer Ahmed Bughio adjourned the session till Wednesday.

NO-TRUST MOVE: The Rasheed Wagan union council here on Monday passed a no-confidence motion against Naib Nazim Dr Ghulam Mujtaba Samtio.

As many as 18 members of the council supported the resolution. Three members did not attend the session.

Abdul Ghaffar Wagan presided over the meeting.

Deedar Ali Aarijo had tabled the no-confidence motion.

KILLED: Two unidentified men fired at a motorcycle near Qubo Saeed Khan on Tuesday, killing Mohammed Khan, son of Pasand Khan Magsi, and injuring his companion whose name could not be immediately ascertained.

In another incident in Shahpur Jamali village near Shahdadkot, a girl, Rubina, reportedly committed suicide by taking an insecticide.
