KARACHI, Sept 7: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has ordered the concerned authorities to construct city roads in accordance with international standards.

He was presiding over a meeting on Saturday, which discussed carpeting and construction of rain-hit city roads.

Karachi District Coordination Officer Mir Husain Ali and Works department officials attended the meeting.

Nazim also ordered the officials to make arrangements for the discharge of rainwater and sewage to ensure that these should not further damage roads during downpour.

City Nazim said that problems being faced by the citizens had increased in the wake of torrential rains, especially the battered roads had doubled their troubles.

He asked city administration to speed up the development work to reduce public grievances.

Taking note of the dilapidated road between Johar roundabout and railway bridge in Gulistan-e-Johar, Mr Khan issued orders for initiating construction work on the road. He also asked Works Department to complete carpeting of Johar round-about within a week.

The meeting also decided early removal of encroachments from Banaras Chowk to expedite beautification and construction work.

The meeting was told that a one-kilometre road was being constructed between the Banaras Chowk and Manghopir Road, while Shahra-e-Orangi was also being repaired up to the Orangi Bridge.—APP
