HYDERABAD, Sept 7: The issues of water shortage and Karo-kari in Sindh will be highlighted with the help of street theatre, which is being organized by the Ajoka Theatres.
This was stated by the manager of the Ajoka office, Malik Aslam, on Sunday after the performance of a street theatre on the plight of kiln workers on the Miran Mohammad Shah Road in front of the press club.
The play highlighted the fact that kiln workers continued to live in abject poverty while they were being exploited by the kiln owners.
It was highlighted in the play that members of the civil society had failed to realize their prime responsibilities in ensuring fundamental rights to kiln workers.
A large number of passers-by gathered to watch the street theatre.
Mr Aslam told journalists that the issues of Karo-kari and water shortage in Sindh province were highlighted through their plays in Punjab and there had been 15 repeat performances of such plays in various parts of Punjab, including Islamabad.
He said that they had decided to hold five theatre workshops next year in various districts of Sindh, and added that so far they had staged street theatre on the plight of kiln workers in several places, including Jamshoro and Marvi Town.
He said that the issues of social injustices, minorities and child rights were also focused in their plays.
He told newsmen that they were trying to get in touch with professionals who knew how a theatre works so that a number of street theatres could be held in Sindh.
He said their teams comprised volunteers, including businessmen, who had shown a keen interest in the street theatre, which dealt with bringing about a social change in society.
