Imran asks govt to produce Zahra Shahid’s killers before court

ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan asked the government on Tuesday to produce before court the killers of Zahra Shahid Hussain who was assassinated outside her house in Karachi on May 18, 2013.

“I know that the government has already arrested the killers and I demand it to produce them before the court as soon as possible for their conviction,” he said while addressing the participants of his party’s sit-in at D-Chowk.

He said that if the accused belonged to any party, its leadership should come forward to provide justice to the family of the slain PTI leader. “Please help us in punishing the killers of Zahra Hussain.”

Mr Khan announced that the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would hold local bodies’ elections on November 15. “I am very happy that the Supreme Court mentioned during the proceedings of a case that the PTI will hold the local government elections next month.”

He claimed that the government had arrested 400,000 people accused of stealing electricity but none of them had been punished. “It was not difficult for me to pay electricity bills of my residence, but I burned the bills at the container because if I did not show my reaction there was a possibility that the government might have increased electricity tariff.”

He called for an immediate audit of the inflated electricity bills.

The PTI chief appealed to the students of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to come to the sit-in on Thursday because he was preparing a special lecture for them.

He said his party would hold its next public meeting in Sargodha on Friday. “I will personally supervise the arrangements for the gathering and decide who will be with me on the stage,” he added.
