SHIKARPUR, Sept 3: The Shikarpur Taluka Council in a unanimous resolution on Monday opposed construction of the Thal canal and the Kalabagh dam.
The council members demanded that President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali should shelve the water projects which were rejected by three provinces.
They said the projects were against the interests of Sindh.
The session was presided over by convener Khurshid Ahmad Soomro.
ACTING NAZIM: Acting Shikarpur Taluka Nazim Syed Aijaz Ali Shah has said the work of desilting drainage systems and removing garbage from streets and roads is in progress.
He was speaking at a reception hosted by the Shikarpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Tuesday night.
INQUIRY: The deputy director, Anti-Corruption Establishment, Larkana, Abdul Razzaq Soomro, has said the preliminary inquiry into corruption allegations in the education department is near its completion which will be submitted to higher authorities.
Mr Soomro said this during his visit to Shikarpur on Tuesday.
BANDIT HELD: The district police arrested a bandit and recovered a Kalashnikov from his possession here on Monday night.
The police after receiving information that a group of bandits was hiding near the bypass road raided the spot.
After an exchange of fire, bandit Ghazi Shaikh alias Kandero was arrested.
KILLED: A villager, Bhooral Junejo, 30, was shot dead by four thieves who broke into his house in the Drig Mahar village on Monday night.
The Jhabbar Shaikh police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, a watchman of a petrol pump was killed by three unidentified armed men here the other day.
Imam Baksh Lohar was on duty at the petrol pump when the attackers shot him dead and escaped.
Mehboob Lohar, the brother of the dead man, has lodged an FIR with the Stuart Ganj police against three unidentified killers.
The motive behind the killing is said to be an old enmity.
