KARACHI, Sept 3: Two persons were injured in a parcel bomb explosion at a madressah in North Nazimabad on Wednesday.

The bomb went off at about 9:30am and the Madadgar 15 relayed the message and informed the concerned police station at about 10:45am — more than one hour after the incident.

A spokesman for the city police chief said that the Madadgar 15 informed the police at around 10:45am following which SHO of Shahra-i-Noorjahan arrived at the scene of the incident where he found the victims, Mufti Abdul Waris and Salahuddin, injured.

During initial investigation, it was revealed that a 10-year-old boy, Ataullah, a student of the Madressah Jamia Usmania in Nusrat Bhutto Colony, was stopped by a stranger who, later, asked him about Qari Khalid. The stranger gave Ataullah a parcel book and asked him to hand it over to Qari Khalid. Ataullah went inside the Madressah and delivered the parcel to Mufti Abdul Waris as Qari Khalid was busy taking a class.

After about 30 minutes (at 9:30am), the spokesman said, Mufti Waris in presence of Salahuddin, opened the parcel which exploded with a bang. As a result, Mufti Waris suffered injuries in his chest and both of legs whereas Salahuddin suffered injuries on his face.

The Bomb Disposal Squad opined that the bomb contained approximately 100 grams of explosive. Torn pieces of the book and four pencil cells were recovered from the spot. An FIR (No.146/2003) under section 3/4 Explosive Act and 324/34 Qisas and Diyat (Q&D) Ordinance was registered.
