Warlord blamed for attack

PESHAWAR, Sept 1: Former Kashmiri guerilla commander Mast Gul has blamed an Afghan warlord for an attempt on his life, claiming the assassination bid was plotted with Indian agents, police said on Monday.

Mast Gul, who survived the attempted killing by unknown assailants on Sunday, has named former Jalalabad corps commander Haji Zaman in a complaint lodged with the police, police officer Shamsul Qamar said.

The assailants escaped in a car after spraying bullets at Mast Gul, who rose to prominence after claiming responsibility for the two-month siege of Charar-i-Sharif mosque in occupied Kashmir in 1995.

In his complaint, Mast Gul claimed that Haji Zaman and his two brothers had hatched the murder plot with the alleged help of RAW, Mr Qamar said.

“RAW had plotted a similar attempt with the help of former Afghan commanders earlier also,” he said.—AFP
