CALCUTTA, Aug 31: Authorities have called in army reinforcements in the Indian coastal state of Orissa after floods caused by heavy monsoon rains killed 10 people and cut off hundreds of low-lying villages, officials said on Sunday.

Hundreds of troops and naval personnel were using boats to provide relief to more than 200,000 people in 522 villages marooned by the swollen Mahanadi river.—Agencies
