Motion on Thar drought issue

KARACHI: More than 1,000 people, including children and women, have so far died in Tharparker due to famine condition but the Sindh government has not declared Thar a drought-hit area.

This issue was raised in an adjournment motion submitted to assembly secretariat on Tuesday by the leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Shaharyar Khan Mahar.

Mr Mahar told reporters after filing the motion that the people were dying due to food deficiency but the Sindh government had yet t declare Thar as a drought-hit area.

He said that hundreds of families were compelled to leave their home for their survival.
