KARACHI, July 23: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Wednesday inaugurated a new unit of machinery and equipment, recently procured by the city government at a cost of Rs5 million, at the Spencer’s

The Nazim was shown a Rs800,000 equipment which, the management told him, was not available at any other eye hospital of the city. With this equipment, a patient’s eye pressure could be ascertained without touching his eye.

The newly-installed equipment has increased the hospital’s capacity, with regard to the handling of OPD, surgery, etc., manifold and patients will no more have to wait for long for their turn. They may also avail the facilities of modern examination methods and better treatment at the hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, the Nazim pointed out that majority of Karachiites was poor and emphasized the need for all possible efforts to provide them better and cheaper treatment facilities.

The city government, he said, was implementing phased programme for the availability of modern machinery and equipment at its hospitals and that further measures were being taken to upgrade Spencer’s Eye Hospital.

POLIO DRIVE: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan administered polio drops to children during his visit to Soldier Bazaar Maternity Hospital in Jamshed Town here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the efforts by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and City Health Department to protecting children against the crippling disease and striving hard to achieve the national goal of acquiring ‘zero-polio prevalence’ as soon as possible.

He stressed the need for adequate strategy to achieve the target and maintain it for three consecutive years, ultimately enabling the country to be declared absolutely free of the disease.

The event at Soldier Bazaar Maternity Hospital was part of the anti-polio campaign now under way in the city to immunization a maximum possible number of the children up to the age of five. The campaign has also been launched in other selected parts of the country.

The Town Health Officer, Jamshed Town, Dr Sahab Jan Badar, is supervising the campaign in close coordination with public representatives.

Vaccination teams have been visiting each and every household to administer polio drops to children.—APP
