Iran’s Sunni MPs complain of prejudice

TEHRAN, July 22: Sunni deputies in Iran’s parliament criticized in an open letter to the country’s leading Shia leaders what they called a discriminatory attitude towards the Sunnis, the reformist Yas-i-No daily reported on Tuesday.

“Is it contrary to the principles of Shia jurisprudence to appoint a competent Sunni Muslim as vice-president, minister, vice-minister, governor, ambassador, member of the president’s office or member of parliament’s presiding board?” asked the letter addressing nine Shia leaders.—AFP
