Madiha, Faryal Gauhar grieved

LAHORE, July 21: Noted social worker Khadijah Gauhar died in Skardu on Sunday night. She was 75. She was the mother of TV artistes Madiha and Faryal and Aamir Gauhar.

She was born in South African port city of Cape Town in late 1920s. Khadijah received her early education at Trafalgar High School, Cape Town, a centre of anti-apartheid movement.

Khadijah came to Pakistan in early 1950s to study at Kinnaird College, Lahore. Later, she received education at the Punjab University and London School of Economics and Social Sciences.

She worked as the assistant editor of newspapers The Punjab Times and Punjab Punch.

Besides writing on the racial discrimination in South Africa, she wrote Umeedon Ki Fasal, a novel on the aftermath of 1965 Indo-Pakistan war on the people of South Asia.

Khadijah was working as the coordinator of Maternity and Child Health Project in Baltistan (Northern Areas).

Her funeral will be held here on Wednesday, the family members said.—APP
