PESHAWAR, July 21: A three-day anti-polio campaign would get under way in the high-risk districts of the province on Tuesday.

Anti-polio drops would be administered to children below the age of five years in Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Dir Upper and Lower.

Khyber, Bajaur, Malakand, Orakzai, and North Waziristan Agencies are the parts of Fata which would be covered under the campaign.

Teams have been constituted to administer anti-polio drops to children at their doorsteps.

The health department has urged parents to vaccinate their children against the disease.

APP ADDS: Executive District Officer (health), Bannu, Fazal Mahmood said here on Monday that Pakistan was among the 10 countries in the world where polio cases were still reported, adding that the government was working for its eradication.

He urged broader public participation in the drive against the crippling disease.

Highlighting the importance of the newly-established health centres in connection with the anti-polio drive, he said that most of the areas in Bannu were now polio-free, adding that no case had been reported in a long time there.

He said several public awareness programmes had been arranged in this regard.
