MNA booked after clash at Mardan police station

MARDAN: Police have registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MNA Ali Mohammad Khan and six of his supporters after they allegedly stormed Shergarh police station, resulting in injuries to three policemen and two PTI activists.

The police high-ups also suspended the SHO of the police station, Khadimeen Khan, after the occurrence and ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Sources said that the incident took place over a petty issue of delay in verification of certain documents of a resident, which annoyed some local PTI leaders.

When Dawn approached the officials of Shergar police station, they said that one Sehzad Ali came to the police station for verification of documents. They said that it took a bit longer to verify the documents as the SHO along with other police officials was not present in the station.

After some time, they said that Takhtbhai tehsil PTI’s president Sadiq Hussain came along with the said person and exchanged hot words with the police officials. The officials alleged that later MNA Ali Mohammad Khan also reached along with about 20 party workers armed with pistols and sticks.

“We tried our best to clarify our position to the MNA but in vein,” they said, adding that the armed men started hitting the police officials inside the station.

They said that those nominated in the FIR included MNA Ali Mohammad Khan and party activists Sadiq Hussain, Shah Hussain, Shams Zaman, Abid, Qaiser and Jehangir Khan.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Saeed Khan Wazir told Dawn that he had suspended the SHO and six other police personnel after the incident. He said that he had ordered an inquiry into the incident.

This correspondent tried to contact the MNA, but his cell phone was not responding. However, on a social media website the MNA has posted the message: “In police station Shergarh PTI tehsil president and workers were abused and manhandled. On my intervention the concerned officials are suspended.”
