Saddam’s message authentic: US

Published July 20, 2003

WASHINGTON, July 19: Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s latest message was recorded this week and is authentic, US intelligence agencies believe.

In a report published on Saturday, the agencies also acknowledge that his presence encourages the Iraqi resistance.

Saddam’s newest audiotape was apparently recorded on July 14 and made a reference to the new council of Iraq, which was established last Sunday.

Reports point out that the poor quality of the recording prevents technical analysts from being absolutely certain of its authenticity.—Correspondent
