HYDERABAD, July 17: The adviser to Sindh chief minister for home department, Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, has said that the decision regarding further extension in the stay of rangers in Sindh would be taken by the cabinet and he alone had no authority to give any decision in this regard.
He was responding to the queries of journalists at the Civil Hospital Hyderabad on Thursday where he had gone to inquire after the health of injured of Wednesday’s bomb blast that took place outside the surgical ward in the hospital premises.
He also visited the spot where the blast had occurred.
Regarding a question that the deadline of Rangers’ stay in Sindh expired on July 13 and that his party had been opposed to their prolonged stay in the province, he said that his opinion alone did not carry weight and this was a decision to be taken by the Sindh cabinet. “I think these blasts are also aimed at communicating a message to the foreign missions in Karachi,” he claimed, and added that it was his own opinion and he was not saying it categorically.
Referring to previous bomb explosions in Karachi and Hyderabad, he said that some suspects were picked up but their identity could not be disclosed, and added that the blasts in Karachi’s shopping centres and Wednesday night’s blast in the Civil Hospital were similar in nature.
He claimed that the miscreants had tried to avoid maximum casualties as they wanted to cause injuries, create panic and spread harassment in Sindh province.
Condemning the bomb explosions, he said that the saboteurs who were carrying on these activities wanted to prevent investors from investing in Sindh province, particularly Karachi.
He said that these attempts would directly hit business activities, which the miscreants wanted to undermine.
He said that the authorities were making investigation in this regard.
He believed that a particular group was not behind these attacks which were being witnessed nowadays.
The medical superintendent, Dr Sharfuddin Baloch, informed him about the nature of injuries and condition of the injured.
The regional police officer, Hyderabad, Ghulam Mohammad Malkani, and the DPO, Hyderabad, A. D. Khwaja, also accompanied the provincial adviser.
SIX DISCHARGED: Six out of the nine bomb blast victims have been discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.
Some suspects have been detained by the police for interrogation.
The Market police have lodged a case against unknown persons under relevant sections of the law vide FIR No119 on the complaint of the resident medical officer, Dr Naeem Zia.
