ISLAMABAD, July 16: A woman committed suicide, while a boy was killed in a road accident on Wednesday, police and hospital authorities said.
In the first incident, Shomaila Bibi, 30, committed suicide by jumping into Soan river at Sihala, police said.
The victims’ relatives claimed that Shomaila was abnormal. She woke up early in the morning, went to the river side and jumped into the water, the police said.
The woman’s relatives did not give permission for autopsy. They also did not lodge an FIR, saying it was a family matter.
In another incident, a boy was killed after being hit by a Suzuki carry van in Sihala, police said.
Farhad, 9, was crossing the road when a carry van (IDM-4862) ran over him. He shifted to District Headquarters Hospital where he died.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Attiqur Rehman, was arrested by Sihala police.
Meanwhile, a man was injured in a fire which broke out when he showed a match stick to an oven on Wednesday.
Mohammad Saleem, 45, a resident of Murree, in his statement, said he was lighting the oven when a can of oil, which he was carrying, caught fire and burst. On hearing his screams, his colleague rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames, the police said. According to doctors Saleem received 60 per cent burns.
ROBBERY: Robbers and thieves struck at three different places in the twin cities, police said on Wednesday.
Four robbers broke into the house of Rukhsana Shireen, situated in the jurisdiction of New Town police station, and held the inmates hostage. They then escaped with 5,000 pounds, local currency worth Rs35,000, 40 tolas gold, two video cameras and a mobile phone, the police said.
An unregistered Mehran car was lifted from the jurisdiction of Airport police station, while Akthar Ali Shah lodged an FIR with Margalla police, saying that some persons broke into his house in G-9/3 sector and made off with a motorcycle (FDH-1391).
APP ADDS: Police on Wednesday arrested a bootlegger and seized 500 bottles of liquor from his possession during a raid on his house.
The Tarnol police on a tip off raided a house at Nogadi and seized 500 liquor bottles.
Meanwhile, the Tarnol police arrested Ibrahim, Imran and Akbar during patrolling and seized a 30-bore pistol from their possession.
