LAHORE, July 15: A full bench of the Lahore High Court is likely to pronounce judgment on Wednesday (today) on the petitions filed by the students of various medical colleges in the province, who assailed the affiliation of their institutions with the University of Health Sciences.

The students of Allama Iqbal Medical College, de’ Montmorency Dental College, Nishtar Medical College and Fatima Memorial Medical and Dental College had moved court, arguing that they were currently registered with the Punjab University and did not want their degrees to be issued by the UHS which had yet to win recognition abroad.

The UHS vice-chancellor, through a letter issued in December 2002, had ordered the PU to cancel the affiliation of all the medical colleges with it saying that following the promulgation of the UHS Ordinance 2002 in September last, all these institutions had been automatically affiliated with the UHS.
