Cable operators assail govt policy

KARACHI: The Cable Operators Association of Pakistan (COAP) has vowed to continue its struggle against what it calls steps to curb media freedom and warned the federal government of besieging various official institutions if it continues with the policy.

Speaking at a demonstration held outside the Karachi Press Club on Thursday in protest against the arrest of the general secretary of COAP Chaudhry Tahir in Punjab, the association’s Chairman Khalid Arain said that cable operators would not accept any pressure from any quarter for banning any channel.

Mr Arain urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to beware of elements hatching conspiracies against democracy.
