HYDERABAD, July 15: Servants of some land owners of Sanghar kidnapped two peasants from the premises of the sessions court here on Tuesday.
However, one of the peasants was released later after being tortured.
The peasants were as kidnapped when they were coming out of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, where they had come to enquire about the date of hearing of their constitutional petition filed for recovery of 46 peasants.
Reports and the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan’s coordinator for bonded labour, Aftab Ahmad, said Khamiso had filed a petition against Naubat Zardari, his brothers, Akhtar Zardari, Noor Ali Zardari and Shams Zardari, seeking recovery of 46 members of his family who were in illegal confinement of the respondents for the last 21 years.
Mr Khamiso, Rustam, Wazir Ali, and his wife, Rasoola, had come to the circuit bench of the SHC to meet their counsel, Ali Ahmad Taqvi, to know the date of hearing of their case. The servants of the respondents intercepted them near the gate of the court and took Mr Khamiso and Mr Rustam away. Ms Rasoola and Mr Ali managed to escape.
Mr Rustam, who was freed later, told HRCP officials that he and Mr Khamiso were taken to a bungalow (B-A2) of Naubat Zardari in Naseem Naggar where they were tortured. He said he was released with a message that those who were helping them would be meted out with even harsher treatment.
The HRCP coordinator said when the Cantonment police station was approached for help, the head Moharir expressed his inability. He added that Naubat Zardari was a revenue officer and he was also holding a girl in wrongful confinement for the last two years.
