The activists of the Muttahidda Aman Committee started peace walk from Peshawar Press Club. The walk ended at the Afghan consulate, and presented a memorandum to Afghan Consul-General Haji Abdul Khaliq Farahi. The committee chairman Irshadul Haq Madni led the walk.
The marchers, carrying bunch of flowers and placards, chanted slogans and appealed for peace and close Pakistan-Afghan friendship. Later, the committee members presented flowers and memorandum to the consul-general.
The committee, in a press release, expressed concern over the ongoing border dispute between the two countries and said that the two countries could not afford hostilities.
The committee urged Islamabad and Kabul to halt skirmishes along the border and hold talks forthwith to promote peace and friendship. The press release said that the people of Pakistan had rendered great sacrifices and provided shelter to millions of Afghans during the war.
The committee also condemned the attack on the Pakistan embassy in Kabul and alleged that some elements wanted to destabilize Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. They called upon Pakistan and Afghanistan authorities to order their forces to halt firing on each other.
