NAWABSHAH, July 14: The body of Mumtaz Ahmed Chandio, 30, a student of final year electrical engineering, Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology Nawabshah, was brought to his ancestral village, Ghulam Hyder Chandio, in Sakrand by his brother, Ghulam Ali, and was buried on Saturday.
Police claimed that Mumtaz was a dacoit and allegedly killed him in an encounter in Hyderabad on Friday.
MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio and 200 other villagers attended his funeral rites.
Later, talking to newsmen, Zulfiqar Ali Chandio and Ghulam Ali Chandio, both Mumtaz’s brothers, claimed that Mumtaz Ali was only a student leader working for the Jeay Sindh Mahaz and was “not a dacoit or thief”.
They said that since he was a worker of a nationalist party; therefore, he picked up enmity with the police.
They claimed that he had an enmity with Inspector Mehboob Sipyo who was thirsty for his blood.
They accused the police of registering fake cases against Mumtaz, and added that no case registered against him was proved in court and he was freed.
They said that the police raided the house of Pappu Sheikh, nephew of SP, Nazir Sheikh, in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and arrested Mumtaz Ahmed Chandio, Javed Babar and Pappu Sheikh.
They said that when they were arrested, they had neither any weapons nor a car.
They said that they had earlier sent telegrams to the president, prime minister, chief minister, governor and others informing them that their lives were being threatened by DPO A. D. Khwaja and Inspector Mehboob Sipyo.
They said that they had copies of these telegrams.
The senior vice president, Sindh Chandio Welfare Association, Mohammad Safar Chandio, has called it an extra-judicial killing and a threat to the youth.
He demanded that the authorities conduct judicial enquiry into the incident.
MAN FREED: The judicial magistrate-I, Nawabshah, Syed Zahid Hussain Shah, raided the B-Section police station and freed a man, Mohammad Aslam Arain, from illegal detention on Saturday.
The judicial magistrate raided the police station on the directives of the district and sessions judge.
The magistrate directed the SHO, B-Section police station, Ali Bux Jamali, to appear before the court on Monday.
HIGHWAY BLOCKED: Several dozen Unnar clansmen blocked the National Highway, near Qazi Ahmed, and observed a sit-in against the Khosos on Monday.
