Moview review: The best X-Men movie so far!

THE X-Men are back and this time, everybody’s favourite mutants are in trouble. They are being wiped out by humans and both Professor X and Magneto join hands in order to avoid extinction.

They send one of their ‘kind’ to the past to change the course of time, thus correcting the troublesome future -- hence the name Days of Future Past!

The story takes place after the events of X-Men: First Class – in 1973 to be exact. Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) has gone ‘rogue’ and is about to commit an act that will result in the destruction of mutants – good or bad.

Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) convince Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to go back in time to stop Mystique, and he can only do that if he manages to convince their younger selves — Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) — to help. Hank aka Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Quicksilver (Evan Peters) also make their appearances as initial members of X-Men, and are integral to the plot. Interesting, isn’t it?

The best thing about X-Men: Days of Future Past is the story which has been handled with extreme delicacy, considering one wrong step would have meant an end to the franchise. With so many characters involved, the film could have been messy, but kudos to director Bryan Singer who not only rejoins the franchise he started, but also makes a successful comeback after not impressing with Man of Steel.

The special effects are the key to the movie; they not only seem realistic but are easily one of the best ever seen in superhero flicks. Be it Quicksilver’s running around, Mystique’s changing appearances or Magneto using his powers, all the sequences are a treat to watch. The 3D may not seem as spectacular as in other movies this year (including Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spiderman 2) but when you have a flawless story, brilliant acting and jaw-dropping effects, who cares!

For all the fans of X-Men out there, X-Men: Days of Future Past is a must watch since it provides the many missing links to the franchise that began in 2000. The acting couldn’t have been better and the one-liners keep the fans interested till the very end. Hugh Jackman is easily the star of the movie whereas the different versions of Professor X and Magneto also shine – in both the past and the future. Not to be missed at any cost.
