BADIN, July 13: An urgent meeting, convened by the district coordination officer and attended by all EDOs, managers of sugar mills, the director of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority and other officials, reviewed precautionary measures in the wake of flood and rains, which might hit the coastal district within 24 hours.

DCO Mumtaz Ali Shah directed the officials to remain fully alert to the possibility of danger. Mr Shah pointed out the experiences of past heavy rains and subsequent floods which had affected entire district in general, and the two talukas, — Shaheed Fazil Rahu and Badin — in particular.

Two control rooms were also established one at the DCO office with Tel: No. 61996 and the other at the superintending engineer irrigation office with Tel No. 61422. Both the rooms would work round-the-clock.

It was decided that the affected people would be shifted to safer places in case of any eventuality. For the purpose the government buildings would be evacuated.

The executive engineer was directed to identify the vulnerable points along the protective bunds, and keep vigil round-the-clock at canals and other water channels of the district.
