MULTAN, July 13: The Joint Action Committee of lawyers vowed to continue its struggle against what its leaders described as “illegal and extra-constitutional acts of the military junta in collaboration with the judiciary”.

The JAC launched its mass contact drive here at a meeting that also marked the start of another round of protests against the Legal Framework Order. The meeting was organized by the district bar association.

Supreme Court Bar Association president Hamid Khan, Pakistan Bar Council executive committee chairman Kazim Khan and PBC vice-chairman Mian Abbas Ahmed were prominent among speakers on the occasion.

The SCBA chief said the struggle of lawyers against subversion of the constitution through the LFO did not have any political motives and had only been launched to protect the constitution. He said the Bar would not spare the military adventurers and their “collaborators in the judiciary” who were defacing the constitution. He said no one could refrain lawyers from pointing out “faults in the judiciary”.

“The draconian contempt laws cannot debar us from uncovering the misdeeds of judiciary,” he said and added: “We will bring out more white papers about the wrongdoings of judiciary.” He said lawyers would boycott the courts of judges who might “use the fresh law on contempt of court against them”.

The JAC decided to hold its next meeting in Quetta.
