Heavy exchange of fire on border with Iran

QUETTA: A heavy exchange of fire took place between Pakistani and Iranian border forces along Mashkel area of Washuk district on Monday, sources said.

The Iranian forces started firing rockets at around 9.30am, they said.

“At least 24 rockets fired by Iranian border forces from across the border exploded 2km west of the Juli Sham post of the Frontier Corps,” an FC official told Dawn. The FC troops responded by firing mortar shells and light machineguns, he said.

“A heavy exchange of fire, lobbing of rockets and mortars continued for over an hour,” the sources said, adding that the Iranian forces stopped firing after the FC’s response.

“No loss of life has been reported from any side,” officials said.

They said Iranian forces had fired rockets into Pakistan without any provocation.

A Pakistani was injured in Iranian firing on Sunday near the border in Panjgur district.
